The School is host to a wide variety of exciting research and actively seeks to collaborate with academic and industry partners. We engage with cutting edge design technologies, engineering and material arts, as well as fine arts, and the history and theory of art and design.
CSAD’s research submission to the Research Excellence Framework was assessed under the auspices of the Wales Institute for Research in Art and Design (WIRAD); a partnership with Cardiff Met’s National Centre for Product Design & Development Research (PDR) and art and design researchers at the University of South Wales, University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
The panel rated 97% of WIRAD’s research as international standard, with 75% rated as either Internationally Excellent or World Leading. The full results are available here:
World Leading – 23% overall
Internationally Excellent – 52% overall
Internationally recognised – 22% overall
Nationally recognised – 2% overall
Cardiff Met was also the highest ranked post-1992 institution with 80% of the University’s overall quality profile rated as ‘world leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*). For impact, the proportion rated as 3* or 4* is even better at 83%.
